Nature Needs Us

There’s a troubling lack of interest in protecting nature and the environment—Gen Z is less engaged in climate change than those over 65. Yet we need their involvement, as they are the leaders of tomorrow. Our initiative, led by a soon-to-be second grader, aims to inspire local elementary and high school students to take small actions that improve our environment.

The actions we are taking:

Organize clean-up efforts in public spaces—including schools, recreation areas, and nature reserves—in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, Atherton town staff, and park and reserve personnel.

Raise awareness about environmental issues by participating in town events (e.g., Atherton’s Earth Day Festival), hosting school assemblies, and inviting environmental experts to speak in classrooms.

Identify opportunities to restore local habitats, such as tree planting and invasive species removal, and encourage student participation in these activities.
